The Broadway Arts Repertory Company

The Broadway Arts Repertory Company has come to life. It's founders are Martha Velez, James Reid, Hilda Gore, Sue-Ellen (Salvato) Mandell, Class of  61, and Abraham Alvarez and Adrienne Bernstein, Class of 62. The home base for our operations is the  Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Theater in our legendary Performing Arts building. The association between BARC and JKO was achieved after many meetings and discussions with the JKO leadership and we now have an exclusive commitment from them to use the theater during the Summer 2003 and beyond.   Essentially, our founding group is offering theater workshops for the JKO students. As an extension to this,  our BARC company  will be mounting Staged Readings of the Great  Plays, Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award Winning featuring Celebrity Guest Artists, during the Summer, 2003. The plays will be performed for  8 weekends beginning July 11-13th and will end August 29 -31st. Thankfully the theater is air conditioned.

It would be wonderful to get support from the alumni association. There are so many talented qualified alumni that might want to contribute a workshop for the students. Our efforts are both philanthropic and artistic. A portion of the proceeds from the performances during the  Summer Series 2003 will be channeled towards a  Broadway Arts Repertory Company Performing Arts Scholarship Fund for deserving JKO students. If you wish to contact me, Martha Velez, Ph.D., Artistic Director, BARC, please email me at MARVELKEL@AOL.COM.  We will have more information at the reunion.
